CHAPTER 4

THE LAST CASE

My name is Max , and I am just an unknown boy in this vast world. You all might be thinking that I am GT’s son, but I assure you, I am not. My father, Carlos Li Sang, works in the USA as a respected entrepreneur, living there and sending money back home to support us. He left for the United States on September 25, which is a date that holds a heavy significance for me because it is the same day that GT passed away. I remember vividly that he boarded the plane right in front of me, and he promised that he would return on December 25, just in time for Christmas, so we could celebrate the holiday together as a family.

Today is December 15, and it has now been a week since my father stopped messaging me. Normally, he would communicate with me regularly through text, so his silence is deeply unsettling. I feel an overwhelming sense of worry and anxiety about his absence. When I confided in my mother about my concerns, she reassured me that he was still messaging her. While I agree with her to some extent, a nagging doubt lingers in my mind: why hasn’t he reached out to me? This uncertainty prompted me to take action, so I decided to visit Officer Stephen Cavil at his police station to report my father missing.

After school, I made my way to the station and shared my story with him. He listened attentively and seemed to understand the urgency of my situation. However, he also mentioned that he was currently preoccupied with another case involving the search for real diamonds that GT had hidden somewhere in town, which could complicate things further. Despite this, I was pleasantly surprised when he assured me that he would prioritize finding my father first. He asked for my father’s name, and I told him it was Carlos Li Sang. Then, to gather more information, he came to my home and took some pictures of my father. Officer Cavil promised me that he would do everything in his power to locate my father, and I hold onto that hope as I wait anxiously for any news.

He told me that he had found some of the main locations from where he could gather information about my father, which was a huge relief for me. He also mentioned that this process might take some time, which I understood, but he assured me that my father would be back by December 25th, just in time to celebrate Christmas. However, my mom scolded me for calling the police, expressing her concern and frustration because she didn’t want me to get involved in such matters. She firmly believed that my father was not missing at all, and that he would return home soon.

It was already the morning of December 24th, and I was anxious because there was still no sign of Officer Stephen Cavil at my door. My worry began to deepen, and I decided that I needed to take matters into my own hands and go to his police station. When I finally arrived there, I was fortunate enough to catch him just as he was leaving. He noticed me and walked over, reminding me not to come to the station too often. He explained that he was heading to a final location where there was a high possibility of obtaining vital information about my father. This news filled me with hope, and I quickly returned home to share everything with my mom. Upon hearing the update, she simply gave me a sweet smile and wished me good luck, which made me feel a little more optimistic.

Finally, the long-awaited day of December 25th arrived. My mom was busy decorating the home, hanging ornaments on the tree, and preparing for our Christmas celebration, while I was anxiously waiting for my dad to come home. Suddenly, I heard a knock at the door. My heart raced as I rushed over to open it, wondering who might be on the other side. When I opened the door, it was………………
