THE LAST CASE
Hello everyone, it's me again, Stephen Cavil. I wanted to share my recent experiences with you all, particularly about the situation with GT. To put it simply, that guy has scammed me and completely halted my promotion. It turns out that those diamonds he sold me were nothing but fake. Can you believe it? He didn’t even have the decency to let me see his face during our dealings. My initial gut feeling was right; he ended up winning this round. The commissioner has now assigned me the case of tracking down those elusive diamonds. Normally, I prefer to find people and have encounters, but this time I feel utterly stuck. I’ve been entangled in this case for more than a month now. GT has emerged victorious, but I refuse to throw in the towel. By the way, on a personal note, I’m married now, and my wife is pregnant! We had been in a relationship even before tying the knot. But let’s not stray off topic; there’s much more to share.
It was on September 27 when the shocking truth hit me—that those diamonds were indeed fake. I immediately began my search at the jewelry house, but it proved to be exceedingly difficult because there were no clues left behind. GT was, without a doubt, an expert thief. Ever since that encounter with GT, I find myself frequently visiting the dockyard. There’s an inexplicable feeling of peace that washes over me when I’m there, almost as if someone is quietly accompanying me during my contemplative moments.
Then, on December 15, a young boy named Max approached me with a troubling story. He said his father was missing. Concerned, I decided to speak with his mother privately, and she revealed that he was supposedly in the USA. However, my instincts told me to investigate further for the sake of that child. I listened to Max carefully and identified three main locations where I could potentially gather information about Carlos Li Sang, his father. These places included Carlos’s home, his office, the café he frequented, and another residence where he often spent time alone, not to mention the last location where he had gone missing.
Initially, I went to his home and took several pictures, starting my search for him. I dedicated nearly two days to this endeavor, making a promise to Max that I would bring his dad back by December 25. I couldn’t afford to give up. But when I didn’t find any leads there, I decided to check his office. To my utter shock, the staff informed me that he hadn’t gone to America at all; instead, he had submitted an online resignation on September 29. This revelation was staggering—why would he go to the airport then?
Driven by curiosity and concern, I made my way to the airport to inquire about Carlos. However, the department confirmed that no one by the name of Carlos Li Sang had traveled to the USA, and in fact, there were no flights scheduled for that day. I began to piece together that perhaps the boy was right; his father was genuinely missing, or maybe he had just abandoned his family without a trace.
Next, I visited the café. The staff there informed me that Carlos had last been seen a month ago, which only heightened my anxiety. My heart raced, and beads of sweat trickled down my forehead as I felt the weight of the situation pressing down on me. Nevertheless, I pressed on to his other home, where I found a note that read, “Please give this present to my son. I abandoned them. It is very regretful. I’m sorry. For God’s sake, don’t open the box; just give it to my son. He will open it.”
Respecting the instructions in the letter, I refrained from opening the box and instead set off towards the last known location where Carlos had gone missing.
