CHAPTER 6(FINAL CHAPTER)

THE LAST CASE

The night was heavy, the air sharp with the scent of salt and rust from the dockyard. I had ordered one of my men to trace the last location of that number, and when he sent me the coordinates, my heart nearly stopped. It was the same dockyard where I had killed GT.

But something didn’t add up. GT couldn’t be alive it was carlos online, sending messages to his son, even though I had ended him nearly a month ago. His disappearance was only a week old. My chest tightened, my mind spun. It felt as if reality itself was twisting.

Suddenly, a call came from the control room. My man reported that GT had been using a secret tablet, scheduling messages to his son all this time. The realization hit me like a storm: I had been trapped, deceived, played by GT’s cunning.

I forced myself to stay calm. The wind blew gently across the dockyard, carrying with it a strange, cold energy that pressed down on my chest. My heart grew heavier with every step. Then, I noticed a note pasted on one of the containers. The words were simple, but they cut deep:

“Stephen, I won.”

I dialed Max’s mother immediately, desperate to explain what I had uncovered. But she disconnected the call without a word. It was December 24th, Christmas Eve, and the only thing I could remember was the cargo ship that had arrived from the UK.

Determined, I drove to the military base, showed my ID, and demanded entry. Inside, I found a roster with the name Henry Mark. I asked the colonel to summon him, but no one by that name appeared. Confusion gripped me—GT’s real name was supposed to be Carlos Li Sang.

I scanned a photograph of the September 23 security team. My blood ran cold. Carlos Li Sang was there, smiling among them. “What is Carlos doing here under the name Henry Mark?” I asked aloud. One of the crew members replied, “He is Henry Mark.”

My knees weakened. He was the same man I had seen in Max’s house. My eyes widened, tears stung, and I staggered backward. The colonel demanded an explanation, and I told them: Henry Mark is Carlos Li Sang. Both are the same person. The man you all knew as GT.

The entire crew was stunned. One soldier whispered, “That means he was with us the whole time.”

The truth unraveled before me. GT had stolen the diamonds on September 23, but staged as a innocent but mastermind guy on the 25th to appear as a hero to his son—a man who sacrificed himself for honor. In reality, he was a thief who manipulated everyone.

I realized the cruel twist: if I went to his home, I would not be seen as an encounter specialist, but as a murderer. Still, I had to face his son.

That night, I sat in my car at the dockyard, chain-smoking cigarettes, my mind restless, haunted by regret. By noon the next day, I gathered my courage and drove to GT’s house.

I knocked on the door, my hands trembling. Footsteps approached. The door swung open, and Max, his son, stood there. His innocent eyes widened when he saw me instead of his father. He welcomed me inside, his family gathered behind him.

I handed him a box. My voice cracked as I said, “Your father was a great thief. I’m sorry… I didn’t realize he had a family he was risking everything for.”

Max’s face hardened. “You killed him,” he accused.

I swallowed hard. “That box… it was a gift your father left for you”

Anger burned in his eyes as he tore the box open. Inside was a note, written in GT’s unmistakable hand:

“Sorry, son. But Stephen had to kill me.”

Beneath the note lay a gun. My breath caught in my throat. I knew what was coming.

Max’s hands trembled as he lifted the weapon. My eyes filled with tears, my mouth hung open, sweat poured down my face. Then I saw it—the diamonds, they are attached on gun itself. My heart sank. I had unknowingly delivered the very treasure to his family.

Max reloaded the gun, his finger tightening on the trigger. His eyes blazed with fury, his lips quivered with grief. The room fell silent, the air suffocating.

And then…
